In late 2024, I gave birth to my first baby, a son. At the time, my husband and I were living in Orange County, California, just minutes from Dana Point’s Salt Creek Beach – you can find out a little more about me here. We loved it there. But we knew we wanted to grow our family, and we started asking ourselves what that would actually look like long term.

My husband is from North Carolina, so the Triangle was always on our radar. We decided to fly out and see what our options looked like in person.
We already had a feeling we’d like Cary based on past trips, and once we were actually there, we fell for it completely. Over a two-week stay, we started looking at homes. We saw a few we liked, but nothing that felt right, until one of our last days in town, when we walked into an open house and knew immediately: this was it.
We could picture our family growing there. We could picture Digital Nomad Designs growing there too. And the logistics lined up: my husband was able to transfer within his company to their Morrisville office, just 20 minutes away. We put in an offer, and it was accepted within a few days.
The moment I knew Cary was the place

If I had to point to the exact moment I knew Cary was where I wanted both our family and our business to be, it was Downtown Cary Park.
I love being outside, and this park stood out immediately. It’s thoughtfully designed, and it’s clearly a hub for the community, full of families, many with young kids like ours. Watching that, I felt something click. Cary was a nice place to live but it was also a town actively investing in its own growth. And that’s exactly the kind of place I wanted Digital Nomad Designs to grow alongside.
What sold us on the Triangle
A few things stood out as we spent more time here:
- A small-town feel without feeling small. Compared to where I grew up, Cary has that community feel, but there’s still plenty to do. It’s not sleepy.
- A strong sense of community. There are local events all the time, and a lot of them are built around families with young kids, which matters a lot to us right now.
- The location. Being right in the middle of the Triangle means Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill are all close by. That’s been true for our personal life and it’s turning out to be true for the business too.
We moved to Cary in mid-2025, and it’s been everything we hoped for since.
